Stand up and be Printed is a programme to raise awareness of the issues of fake news and political lies in the Brexit and US Presidential campaigns.

Using letterpress, contributors are asked to make their political thoughts visible in the form of posters.

The work is an analogue technology interrogating issues of truthfulness that arose in social media and politics. Digital technology has caused structural  change in communications and a lack of  regulation has challenged conventions

such as plagiarism and truth.

The stripped back typography and the short philosophical or didactic messages mirror our mobile screen-based cut-and-paste culture.

If you would like to take part or buy a poster which is shown below, email me at aqualtrough@gmail.com.

The posters are 32cm by 42 cm and printed on 300 gsm Somerset hand-crafted paper and cost £25 for single colour, £30 for two colours.

Back to the future

The centuries-old craft of typesetting and letterpress printing is a welcome antidote to the all-consuming digital world. The haptic experience of handling type and mixing ink gets you nearer to the truth of a creative process.

I'm an experienced letterpress printer and have a rare Swiss-made FAG proofing press with wood and metal type at my studio in Stoke (see below).

If you would like a letterpress masterclass or a letterpress printed product, email or give me a call.
