The Truth Wall
Plymouth Art Weekender
This was a project highlighting issues of truth and fake news in the Brexit and US Presidential campaigns.
The stripped back typography, bold colour, and hand set type emphasised the unique aesthetic of letterpress. The short sharp messaging mirrored content on mobile screens.
This site-specific installation was useful for comparison to the same work exhibited in a gallery space.
A number of the posters were made by participants in the letterpress short course programme at Plymouth College of Art and students at Palace Court, PCA's pre-degree school.
Plymouth Art Weekender 2019 Installation
This outside installation of letterpress posters by Alan Qualtrough on hand-dyed salvaged linen by Joanna Shepherd (Mrs Marvellous) is a development of the Truth Wall, which appeared in PAW17 and PAW18.
The work is to be fixed to a tree outside the Plymouth Scrapstore and updated throughout the year.
The words have been gathered from the Stonehouse community and the project has been commissioned by Nudge Community Builders as part of the Creating Civic Change art project.
